On
average, the 45 students who participated in Breakthrough’s Summer Studies program in 2007 showed a three month improvement in their reading
levels when they returned to school in the fall. Meanwhile, the reading
levels of students who did not participate in the program fell by an average of three months. Just two months in Breakthrough's intense Summer Studies program creates a difference of six months in a student's reading level!
This summer, the
program will again focus on reading comprehension and fluency.
Additionally, students will spend time serving in their community and
on field trips throughout the city. We will enroll 50 students at a cost of $1,786 per student, or $233.25 per week. The cost covers things like books, program materials and educational field trips. It is money well-spent when you consider the substantial benefit to the boys and girls who will take great strides toward reading proficiency and gain confidence in their abilities.
