 | Like the newly opened Breakthrough Ministry Center,
which houses Breakthrough’s Employment Program, Eric’s new resume was
constructed by stripping off a lot of material that wasn’t useful and
building it up with strong, solid content.
Eric had a three-year
gap in employment, which stuck out like a red flag. “When I first saw
Eric’s resume, I told him that we'd start fresh,” remembers Employment Coordinator, Kevin Sellers. “We worked together to build one that reflected his strengths and skills but minimized that gap.”
Still,
Eric was nervous about the inevitable question he’d face from
prospective employers about why he hadn’t worked in several years. In
fact, Eric received several responses from his new resume within a week
or two. “Eric already knew a lot about interviewing techniques, but we
went over the hard questions that he might be asked,” said Kevin.
“I
got a job within two weeks,” says Eric. He is happy to have at least
part-time work after years of trying to get a job, although he needs
something more full-time. He plans to take a class that will train him
to use a forklift, which might provide new opportunities for him.
Kevin
has confidence in Eric. “He never stops. He is always on the computer
looking for jobs, and he has a game plan for where to go,” he says.
“Eric is a leader because he teaches by example. I see other guys here
follow his lead.”
