Jeff, a volunteer
“I have always felt a calling from God to give back,” says Jeff. For the past several years, he and his wife, Diane, have pitched in at Breakthrough by periodically organizing the clothing donation rooms. Jeff has also served as a tutor in the Nettie Bailey Student Achievement program.

So when Jeff found himself between jobs this past year, he contacted Breakthrough about volunteering more often. Ironically, he was connected with Employment Coordinator, Kevin Sellers.

At the time, Kevin was busy with new Employment Program initiatives. He created an intensive one-week training program for men and women who are trying to overcome obstacles and secure employment. “Jeff was a great help to us by sharing his work experience and knowledge with our program participants,” says Kevin. “He helped conduct our workshops on resume building, interviewing and conflict resolution.”

“Volunteering has definitely had a major impact in my spiritual growth and faith in Jesus Christ,” says Jeff, who is back at work again. “Although those in the program faced difficult times, they used their faith and inner strength to overcome that. It made me realize that I took a lot of my blessings for granted and sometimes dwelled too much on trivial matters.”
